78th Annual Tulsa Gridiron Show: “Survivor: City Hall. Or, Goodness, Gracious, Great Tar Balls of Fire!”

Bedbugs, Wikileaks, the Tea Party, the Mother of all Oil Slicks, and a WWE wrestling match also known as “Tulsa’s city hall”, are among the many topics that will go under the Tulsa Gridiron’s satirical scalpel February 25 and 26 in its 2011 show, “Survivor: City Hall. Or, Goodness, Gracious, Great Tar Balls of Fire.”  The show will be performed in the Doenges Theatre, Tulsa Performing Arts Center.  Showtime is 8 pm.

The “Gridiron” references a cooking griddle – on which elected officials and other public figures, including pop-culture and sports icons, and current events and social trends, are “grilled” in a live-theater production – through original song parodies and skits.

This year’s cast includes Rebecca Ungerman, Bob Hendrick, Meredith Lee, Rebecca Marks, Liz Masters, Dave Garcia, Darell Christopher, and Kathy LaFortune.  Ungerman also returns for a fourth year as director of the show as well as a performer.

Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith, who acted in the show while a reporter at KJRH Channel 2, will be interlocutor (narrator).  The Gridiron’s annual Roasting Ear Award, given to the most obvious target for spoofing, will be presented to 2010 City Council Chairman Rick Westcott on behalf of the entire council. (Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett was last year’s recipient.)

The show is written by a loose aggregation of Tulsans, herded by chief author, Randy Krehbiel.  Producer is the Tulsa Gridiron Trust, which funds scholarships for college students involved in the support of free speech and political and social commentary.  Sponsors include Public Service Company of Oklahoma and Walsh Branding.

Tickets are on sale now: $25 general admission; $50 cabaret-table seat; $500 VIP cabaret-table of 8.  Tickets are available via the Internet at www.tulsapac.com, at the Tulsa Performing Arts box office, or call 918-596-7111.
